ANGELA CALINA, Wildflower ng Cebu   Host for “Maayung Buntag Kapamilya” on ABS-CBN Cebu, Angela Calina, 30, has won the KBP Golden Dove Awards for Best Host outside Manila. Last year, she went to Manila to try her luck in the city and landed a hosting job for Cinema 1.   “I was begging ABS-CBN for shows to do here,” Angela confided. “I thought I had done everything in Cebu, and I wanted to spread my wings.”   But the talent fee from the show couldn’t pay her rent in Manila. Angela returned to Cebu where she found work outside the network.   She joined a Cebu-based production outfit for Hollywood movies as PR, but discovered that the job demanded from her to cut ties with her extended family.   “I can’t do that,” she said. “After everything we’ve been through, no employer can tell me to forget my family because it is pulling me down. I work because of my family. I already have a daughter, Aira, to think of.”   A smear campaign against Angela instigated by the production outfit that she had left unceremoniously after a few months failed to bring down this Wildflower. The Cebu media, instead, took Angela’s side in the controversy and stood by her against the multinational company.   ABS-CBN Cebu also welcomed her return. After her stint at the PBB House as a celebrity housemate, Angela will be hosting a drama show ala “Malaala Mo Kaya.”
