MICH DULCE, La Fashionista
MICH DULCE, 24, has survived the deaths of her father and her step father without going batty.
“That’s why my view of death is so positive,” she said. “I believed in angels and stuff. Sobra akong binola ng nanay ko so hindi ako naging bitter na wala akong Dad. My mother played both my Mom and Dad.”
Her Dad died when she was only five.
“Sobrang daming nanliligaw sa mother ko, but I hated all of them,” said Mich.
When she married, it was Mich herself who made the match.
“I met the man who would be my step dad inside the elevator,” she narrated. “I was only 13 and he had a big family and lots of grandchildren. He would give me junk food, which my Mom didn’t allow in the house. I introduced my Mom to him during a house blessing.”
The flamboyant Mich said her advocacy is to empower women with curly hair.
“Here in the Philippines, people always think that straight hair is beautiful,” she noted. “I can’t even buy shampoo for curly hair. So that is my advocacy: empowerment for women with curly hair.”
In 2002, Mich was first runner-up in the Young Designers’ Competition. MEGA Magazine also dubbed her as one of the Women to Watch in 2004. She now owns a fashion boutique, “Store for All Seasons.” She is also the vocalist for the all girl bands “Death by Tampon” and “If Disco is a Crime.”
“I’m not conscious about the cameras that would be trained on me inside the house,” she claimed. “I get a lot of press… I’m always in the papers or magazines, either as a designer or as a vocalist. I’ve been in a band for two years. Pero hindi naman ako kumakanta. Sumisigaw lang ako. Indie scene. Respetado naman kami ng mga musikero. But we’re not ‘Hale’ and we don’t have an album.” |
